The Seventh Sacrament of the Armenian Church is referred to as the order of the sick or extreme unction. The important parts of this order are repentance, prayer and Holy Communion. This ceremony is performed by the priest for a sick person who may be at the point of death. The priest lays his hands upon the individual and prays that through the sign of the cross, he will receive God’s strength to endure his pains. The priest also encourages him to trust in God’s infinite mercy. He is encouraged to repent and participate in Holy Communion to secure his salvation, and to enter his eternal rest with a peaceful mind and spirit.
If you have a friend or loved one who is ill and would like a visit from Der Hayr, even if it is just for him to pray for a quick recovery, please contact the church office at (301) 229-8742.
