“The Armenian Church became the fountain of Armenian rebirth. It was there that ‘the people sitting in darkness saw the great light’ (Isaiah 9:2). The Armenian nation took that light and mixed it with her inner feelings and dreams, with her crises and concerns, with her entire being. And with the strength of Christ’s cross and resurrection, the Armenian Church led the Armenian nation from darkness to light, from slavery to freedom, from death to life. The Armenian Church is called to carry out the same mission for spiritual renewal and national rebirth, especially today, in view of the emerging new circumstances, new concerns and needs in our lives. Therefore, the Armenian Church that is called to lead our people toward rebirth must first be renewed herself, with her life, diakonia and mission…” His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia
As Soorp Khatch enters a new phase of renewal, we are grateful for your continued involvement and for all of your efforts to live the Word of Christ. Soorp Khatch is much more than just a church, it is an inclusive community of individuals, working together to foster our faith and preserve our identity. We thank you in advance for your continued support, and encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities available on this page to Support Your Church.
In Lieu of Flowers
Please accept our deepest condolences on the death of your loved one. We would also like to join in honoring their memory. Please let us know if you would like to make a gift to Soorp Khatch “in lieu of flowers” in memory of your dearly departed. Your friends and family can also contribute on this page.
Candles
In the Armenian Apostolic Church we burn candles as a fitting symbol of Christ’s radiance and of God who is the source of all grace and enlightenment. So, for a number of years, Soorp Khatch has allowed our members to donate a box of candles in memory of a loved one, which parishioners light prior to entering the church sanctuary. You too can purchase a box of candles to honor the memory of a loved one on the following page.
Altar Flowers
In the tradition of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Soorp Khatch places flowers on the altar to honor the word of God. Most of these flowers are donated to the church by our parishioners in memory of a loved one. If you would like to remember a loved one by donating flowers for our altar please let us know.
April 24
Every year our community works hard to honor the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in ways that only we can. Our efforts to organize candle light vigils at the White House, protests at the Turkish Embassy, Capitol Hill receptions with Members of Congress, and commemoration ceremonies at the Armenian Embassy are just some of the activities unique to our local Washington, DC community and absolutely essential to raising public awareness and political support for our shared goal of both justice and peace.
Relief Fund
Thanks to the support of one of our parishioners, Soorp Khatch has a fund earmarked to help our own parishioners in need. These funds are distributed at the discretion of our Der Hayr, to help protect the anonymity of its recipients. With much of these funds now depleted, we would welcome your support to help us replenish this important fund. Please donate today.
